Metropolitan quantum communication network connecting institutions through optical fibers of the Rio de Computadores Network, and through a free space link and/or using a “live” optical fiber.

The Rio Quantum Network project is the first quantum communications network in Brazil, uniting five research institutions in Rio de Janeiro: UFRJ, UFF, CBPF, PUC-Rio and IME. The network combines fiber optic connections, using the Rio Network infrastructure, and two optical links in free space, one of which runs 6.8 km between UFF and CBPF, over Guanabara Bay.
